For an established skincare brand, a useful quote starts with the product you are trying to launch—not just the number of units you want to order.
If your next SKU needs to fit an existing range, identify its role first. Is it filling a gap, offering a different format, or improving the presentation of a product your customers already buy? That context helps a supplier assess the right project.
Four choices to describe together
Decoration and printing. Share whether you are considering a label, screen printing, hot stamping, or another finish. A packaging reference is useful, but tell the supplier which details in the reference matter to you.
Quantity. Give the estimated finished-product quantity for each SKU, rather than only a total for the whole range. If you want to compare order sizes, ask for separate proposals using the same product and packaging assumptions.
Formula and custom ingredients. Explain the product format, preferred texture, ingredient requirements, and details that can remain flexible. A request for a custom ingredient needs assessment; including it in a brief does not establish feasibility or support a finished-product claim.
Packaging. Describe the container, closure, intended fill size, decoration, and any retail carton. Mark what is essential and what could change. The outside appearance alone is not a complete packaging specification.
These choices affect the proposal together. A finish, package, or formula change may mean that two apparently similar quotes cover different projects.
Separate price from minimum-order conditions
Ask two questions: “What is included in this price?” and “Which requirement sets the minimum for this configuration?”
Clarify the finished-product quantity and any separate packaging-component requirements. Also ask how the proposed fill size relates to the production conditions for the selected formula. A minimum stated for one configuration should not be assumed to apply to every bottle, size, finish, or formula.
If a proposal includes extra packaging components, ask how they are priced, used, and handled. Compare equivalent specifications before comparing the unit prices.
A short brief you can send today
- The new product and its role in your existing range.
- Your target sales market.
- Intended fill size and quantity per SKU, or the quantities you want to compare.
- Formula preferences and required custom ingredients.
- Packaging reference, printing or finish, and carton requirements.
- Details already decided, plus those you are open to adjusting.
You can mark an undecided detail as “open to recommendation.” You do not need to invent specifications to start the discussion.
